Installing Spacedox on Vista

ISSUE:
Receive an error when trying to view a document in the Brava viewer.

CAUSE:
Installing SpaceDox Components on Microsoft VISTA Operating System In Windows Vista, if the user account has UAC (User Account Control) enabled, you will receive the mentioned error and cannot view the document in the Brava viewer.

SOLUTION:
1. Disable UAC and restart the PC.  Once the PC is restarted, try installing the SpaceDox Components again from the login page and then try to view a file with the Brava Viewer, SpaceDox should work without any issues now.

2. You disable UAC by going to Control Panel > User Accounts > Turn Account Control On or Off (in this case . . . remove the checkmark to disable UAC). This can be done in other ways as well, please see the attached document.

A script on this page is causing Internet Explorer to run slowly - Error Message

ISSUE:
User is presented with a browser message saying "A script on this page is causing Internet Explorer to run slowly". The only option is to accept message.

CAUSE:
There are two main causes for a user to be displayed with this error message.

1. Excessively long running script is being accessed by the page.
2. Spyware or some other type of malware has been introduced to the computer being used.

To correctly identify the cause try the following:

1. Try accessing the same page from a second machine and see if the error results on the second machine.

2. Try accessing the same page on a second machine that is not on the same network or not accessing the internet from the same connection. This will indicate if it is just a problem with the connection that the user is using or not.

If the error message is still displayed after running these two tests then most likely it is Cause 1, please refer to Solution 1 below. If the error message is not displayed on a second machine then it is most likely Cause 2, please refer to Solution 2 below.

SOLUTION 1:
Because some scripts may take an excessive amount of time to run, Internet Explorer prompts the user to decide whether they would like to continue running the slow script. Some tests and benchmarks may use scripts that take a long time to run and may want to increase the amount of time before the message box appears. In Internet Explorer, the script time-out value can be changed on specific client machines by modifying a registry entry.

As of Internet Explorer 4.0, 5.0, 6.0 and 7.0, the time-out is no longer a fixed value based on Windows messages. Internet Explorer now tracks the total number of executed script statements for the current page with the script engine and throws up the time-out dialog box when that value hits a threshold amount.

How to set time-out period for script using the Windows Registry:

To change this time-out value in Internet Explorer 4.0, 5.0, 6.0 or 7.0, follow these steps:

1. Using a Registry Editor such as regedit, open this key by entering regedit from the RUN command on the Windows Start Menu:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\InternetExplorer\Styles

Note: If the "Styles" key is not present, create a new key that is called "Styles". To create the "Styles" key, right-click on the parent key, "Internet Explorer" and select "New" and then "Key" from the sub-menu. A new key value is added under the "Internet Explorer" key named "New Key #1". Right click on this value and select "Rename" and name the new key to "Styles", hit enter when done.

2. Create a new DWORD value called "MaxScriptStatements" under this key and set the value to the desired number of script statements. To create a new DWORD value, with the "Styles" key selected in the left pane, right-click in the right-hand pane and select "New" and then "DWORD Value" from the sub-menu. A new value will be created named "New Value #1". Right-click on the new value and rename to "MaxScriptStatements" and hit the enter key.

3. Set the value of the "MaxScriptStatements" to 5,000,000 by double-clicking on the value and in the "Edit DWORD Value" window that displays, select the Decimal radio button under the "Base" heading then in the "Value data:" field enter "5000000".

By default the key doesn't exist. If the key has not been added, Internet Explorer 4 defaults to 5,000,000 statements executed as the trigger for the time-out dialog box. This value is not set by default for Internet Explorer 5.0, 6.0 and 7.0.

Alternatively you can download the attached Windows Registry File named "MaxScriptStatements.reg" to your desktop and then right-click and select "Merge" to enter the value into your Windows Registry automatically.

SOLUTION 2:
This error message can also be caused by spy-ware, ad-ware or some other mal-ware that has been inadvertantly installed on the user's system. The error message is seen as a result of the mal-ware running scripts in the background and unseen by the user in some cases. Running virus protection software or mal-ware removal software is required. Please see your network support staff for a solution.

Login: slow or hung login

ISSUE:
Login to SpaceDox is very slow or hangs. The problem is machine-specific. Any user logging in will have the same issue. The same user(s) can log in on another machine with normal response. A message may or may not appear warning that you have a pop-up blocker enabled.

CAUSE:
An addon toolbar, such as Windows Live is installed with pop-up blocking enabled. Another contributing factor may be the presence of an authenticating proxy server.

SOLUTION:
Identify any addon toolbars. Some may not be readily apparent on the web page, but another place to check is in Add/Remove Programs. The simplest approach is to uninstall all addon toolbars, but where this is not practical, you can test them individually to identify the offending toolbar(s) - then either disable pop-up blocking in that toolbar(s) or uninstall. Test again as needed to verify normal login.

What Browsers are supported by SpaceDox?

SpaceDox supports Internet Explorer versions 5.5 thru 8.

ISSUE:
Users running Vista o/s cannot log on to SpaceDox.

CAUSE:
Running Internet Explorer (IE) in protected mode interferes with the initial logon to SpaceDox on a Vista machine.

SOLUTION:
Users running Vista O/S may need to turn off IE (Internet Explorer) protected mode for the initial logon to SpaceDox. Once the initial login is successful, IE protected mode can be turned back on - it will not prevent successive logins. Protected mode is automatically turned off when User Account Control is turned off.

WHAT USERS SAY

"...it really works great (regarding the compare feature)...Yes it was awesome!  I’ve been showing it off to some of the other departments... the reviewers...  The overlay with the fade in and out between the two documents is a great tool.  These plans have a large shopping center parking lot and I found a half dozen handicap parking stalls that had been deleted in various locations that weren’t identified as changes.  We never would have caught all of them otherwise."
